Though easy enough to find via star hopping, this supernova remnant is difficult to see in a small telescope from inside a city almost requiring averted vision to pick out. M1 is notable in that it is one of the few supernova remnants the supernova of which was observed in history. M1 is the remnant of a supernova observed by Chinese astronomers in 1054.
