Right ascension is a coordinate in the equatorial coordinate system. It is a measurement along the celestial equator measured in hours moving eastward from the first point of Aries, also known as the [vernal equinox]. It is analogous to the geographic coordinate of longitude. Declination is the other coordinate in the equatorial system.
