Right ascension is a coordinate in the equatorial coordinate system. It is a measurement along the celestial equator measured in hours moving eastward from the first point of Aries, also known as the vernal equinox. It is analogous to the geographic coordinate of longitude. Declination is the other coordinate in the equatorial system.
